Warhammer Old World

I got an email about the new “Warhammer: The Old World” RPG and was wondering what people’s initial thoughts were. I guess the setting is about 150 years before the WFRP 4e setting. I imagine this is to support the Fantasy Battle side of things which relaunched after the whole Age of Sigmar thing? I feel a bit out of the loop because I don’t play the FB side and haven’t played the AoS RPG either. Is the Old World FRPG meant to replace WFRP or exist side by side? Will it have the same rules or different?

I don’t know, I am excited in general for WFRP but I might have a hard time keeping up with 2 product lines simultaneously. But the character sheets bring back some v1 memories. And I’m not sure I can resist buying those maps …

I agree, this seems to be in support of TOW much in the same way that the AOS rpg is meant to support that game. Although I would submit that since one of the design goals of WFRP 4e was to keep in continuity with past WFRP editions, introducing TOW rpg allows them to effectively make a new "WFRP stealth edition" but which allows them to build it more in line with C7's desired game mechanics.

TOW rpg is not meant to replace WFRP (at least as announced) but will co-exist alongside. Time will tell how C7 intends to release supplements for each or if they will try to combine efforts.

The rules for TOW appear to be quite similar to the AOS rpg, according to the early reviews I've seen. I leave it to others to decide for themselves whether or not that's a good thing.

EDIT: Just saw an official C7 preorder post on facebook, selling card packs specific to different archetypes Priest/Wizard/Warrior, and Player Guides separate from a GM Handbook. I'll likely read it over for rules to incorporate as house rules, but for me that just has a bad feel to it.

There are various reviews up on YT, but this is the one I watched.

As a WFRP completist, I'm getting this anyway. Regardless of era, regardless of rules, I just see this as another resource for WFRP of any edition.

The true test of any ruleset is actual play, but this looks like a nice alternative for people who have expressed problems with WFRP4. However, there has already been one thing that's made me personally really happy, namely the use of Willpower for casting magic. This fits my vision of the setting very nicely indeed

Hmm thanks guys. The reviews look pretty good. Maybe I'll sell my soul on eBay to raise some cash.
