Channeling VS Channeling (Any Colour)

I was looking at changing my Witch to a Wizard and noticed something interesting. In Witch and Hedge Witch you get the skill Channeling. In Wizard you get the skill Channeling (Any Colour)

My question is if my ranks in Channeling count towards the Wizard advancement?

I noticed that in Halfling they changed Stealth to Stealth (Any). Will there be a similar change for this as well?

Just very interested in this.

Given that Channeling is a Grouped skill and needs a focus and that there is a Lore of Witchcraft, I am assuming it was supposed to read Channeling (Witchcraft). That's how I'm running it.

As for counting for Wizard, I would say no, as Wizards are practitioners of color/wind magic. I would say you would have to learn a new Channeling.

I would agree. However, since witches dabble in every Wind (and also their career isn't great), I'd be okay with a PC Witch taking Channeling in a classic wind, if the player said they were planning on switching to Wizard.

Channeling's text on page 120 states that the skill can be both specialized and unfocused, and singles out witches and the like as the ones that use it in the more general capacity. From that it's clear that witchcraft uses channeling in a general capacity (and that arcane spells can be created without needing a lore of magic tied to them) and we can assume from there that the main reason dark magic is attractive is that it can be leaned to cast and channel such spells without fancy book learning, so it's more accessible to the have-nots.

Yeah, Channelling (no specialisation) is used by Witches and the like. You need a separate Channelling (Colour) skill as a wizard.

Thank you for the page number there, it made me go back to the book and I think I found the answer on page 238 it talks about "Multiple Arcane Lores" where it states

"If you’re an Elf, you can learn a number of Arcane Lores
equal to your Willpower Bonus. If you have Willpower 65,
you can learn 6 of the 8 Arcane Lores. However, doing this
takes time and effort. You can’t purchase a new Arcane Magic
Talent until you have mastered your previous one by taking at
least 20 Advances in the Channelling Skill of, and learning
at least 8 spells from, your Lore."

To me this is pretty clear that they are different skills. Good to know, means I wasted some skill ups but thats how it goes. Thanks everyone.
