Today, Pádraig Murphy, the WFRP line producer at C7, share with us the list of next books to be releases. Of course, no timeline.

https://www.cubicle7games.com/wfrp4-upcoming-releases/

Archives of The Empire Vol I

In a private room at the Great Hospice, a deft hand has gathered information from across the Empire. Archives of The Empire Vol I features articles on Halflings and Dwarfs, an exploration of The Laurelorn, rules for mass combat, and more.

Archives of the Empire Vol II

Our collector continues to compile missives on life throughout The Empire, with articles on voracious Ogres, enchanted items, and more.

Career Compendium

An expanded career compendium, including new options for existing careers, as well as new careers for Characters to pursue. New careers including Alchemists, Doomsayers, and Barber-Surgeons feature alongside updated options and alternatives for existing careers.

The Imperial Zoo

The Imperial Zoo of Altdorf is home to a plethora of fantastic and dangerous beasts from across the Old World. But before they were caged for the edification of Altdorf’s paying citizens, someone had to capture them. A bestiary of monsters, threats, and terrors of The Old World, with commentary from The Imperial Zoo’s own talented acquisitions team. Having scoured the Old World to locate and capture the Zoo’s catalog, these hardy souls have not been left unscathed by the horrors they have witnessed, and it would be a foolhardy adventurer indeed who failed to heed their sage advice.

Monuments of The Empire

A short digital release exploring six intriguing monuments which can be dropped into any ongoing campaign.

One Shots of The Reikland

A short digital release detailing short one session adventures set in various locations from Buildings of the Reikland.

The Winds of Magic

A history of the lore and practice of magic in the Empire, the High Magic of the Elves, and the runes of Dwarfs. Expanded careers for all eight varieties of human Wizard, as well as additional spells. Finally, an alternate magic system is included, allowing daring casters to create and customise their own spells and rituals!

Reikland Adventures

A series of adventures set around the Reikland.

Until C7 starts being more accurate about their product release deadlines and transparent when they can't meet one, I have no interest in what they have planned for the future because they can't meet my needs for the present.

I am not interested in C7 becoming the Cleveland Browns/Sacramento Kings of the RPG community. I can watch them play in week 1 and do poorly and then go stare at the schedule to anticipate 16 more weeks of the same. Apologies to the folks who aren't NFL/NBA fans, but I'm not sure what an equivalent would be in the English Football Leagues.

doing everything strictly from the view of the Riekland, eh?

not really what i'm here for. there's a whole empire and beyond to explore and honestly Riekland is the dullest bit of it.

I'm not sure it's the dullest, but it's definitely the most done.

No mention here of the campaign that Gav Thorpe is writing that will be largely set in the New World (allegedly).

Well, for years (29?) in England, Liverpool fans have been saying next season. As it happens, that finally came around and they're about to win the league at an absolute canter. Then SARS-CoV-2 happend.

I've said it before, but their real issues to me seem to be project management and their other problems stem from that.

Yes, give us stuff about Nordland or Talabecland or Averland or.... I'm 100% behind you on this.

But honestly, the majority of the book announced have nothing to do with Reikland.

Most of the Reikland adventure hooks and NPCs are rather generic. There is a lot available from old editions on the empire as such. I have no strong need for more sourcebooks.
I would prefer more adventures in other places like Sylvania or expeditions across the border mountains of the empire etc.
I like the idea of having the empire as the home from where things start, because the empire is known and so similar to the real world. That makes it easier to immerse in my view.

"archives of the empire" is clearly set in riekland with the lore intended to be described from a position of how it's important to them given the description, which is not how i want to learn about ogres and halflings and more, the imperial zoo is pretty much the same, monsters as described by altdorf's zookeepers instead of in relation to their natural settings, winds of magic is (again) focused on the collages of magic with other magical schools as an afterthought, honestly the only part that doesn't look to be focused on being focused on the riekland is the career compendium.

at least now i know why they were offering me work to write and then never got back, must have been a major shift in focus and i was very clear i wanted to take my writing far from the empire's center.

It seems that after the events with Andy Law and Ben Scerri there is shift in focus. While we were expecting slowly things to move away from the Empire, all future publication seems to stay there, even a sourcebook on Dwarves! And this schedule is certainly more than a year.

Are there any sources to still my curiosity about what happened at the time?

Someone on (I think) RPG.net's forum claimed there to be a rumour of an ethical issue. However, I realise I'm spreading a rumour of a rumour but that's all I've seen/heard.

For Archives I and II, I don't see how it linked to Reikland. Dwarfs, Halflings, Elves, Mass Combat, Ogres, Magic Items... I don't see how you can said it's related to Reikland. Of course, all this stuff maybe presented from the point of view of the Empire but I think it will be only to give flavor to the text.

Same thing with Imperial Zoo, I believe that it is only a pretext to give flavor to the bestiary. I presume that we must expect a bestiary which will cover the Old World and which will approach the bestiary of the 2nd edition in terms of presentation.

And for Winds of Magic, yeah, the focus will be
eight colleges, but also elvish and dwarf magic. I don't mind to see more winds magic because I feel they are uncompleted and I, in fact, welcome more stuff about that. And you can't said that is Reikland-related because it's not. Empire-related, maybe, but not Reikland-related.

the great hospice and collages of magic are both in altdorf last i checked, i fully expect to see lengthy writeups about them and their relations to ubersriek, as well as the entries on the races being focused on how they relate to the riekland in all cases. all their materials have been very focused on tying themselves to the riekland as strongly as possible for whatever reason

I think it's awesome they add so much stuff to one region (Reikland) as a base to start my adventures from, as long as they expand to other regions in the Empire next year and to the rest of the world after that.

My opinion is that the Empire is the place of the Warhammer setting which cast the Warhammer feeling. It certainly does so because most mature role playing stuff (deep low fantasy grim and perilous but credible world designed by British academics) was wrote in the 1980's while most role playing stuff published in the 1980's were about the Empire.

It was long ago and, I feel that most of what was published for the Fantasy battle game since the 1990's and for the Fantasy Role Playing game since the 2000's, albeit still sometime including some isolated good stuff, was mostly eroding the good previous mature and learned material with new American mainstream view of what might look cool to backward teenagers.

The learned fantasy universe is now long declining, and the commercial universe awake since... I appreciate what might deepen the former and ignore the rest (such as utterly incoherent stuff like WFB4's Bretonnia), but I do not expect good stuff wrote ex nihilo vel ex Fantasy Battle's libris.

I certainly wouldn't had said that would Games Workshop had developed with its initial team the Warhammer World for the Roleplaying Game in the 1990s, but now, I am far from confident that anything set beyond the Empire, and arguably Wastelands-Kislev-Bretonnia, might offer something be much more interesting than what other role playing game settings currently do (except for hard core fans of Warhammer, obviously). I may, obviously, be proven wrong. We'll see... I'll see at last.

I like the fact they'll develop new post TEW Ubersreik adventures, for adventurers who played TEW (especially since it did match my expectations to consider playing Rough Nights..., Hard Day, and Night in the Opera within Death on the Reik while keeping Nastassia... As a rallying scenario for post-TEW's campaign. Weddings allowing for prestigious "Warhammer Heroes" to meet again, and reunite as in the good old days... I hope more high level political scenarii...

Interesting points.

I found WFRP 2nd Edition to be a mixed bag in this regard. The Kislev sourcebook I thought was excellent, Knights of the Grail not so much, however I thught it was about as good as it could be given the mess that GW had made of Bretonia. It's a shame as WFRP 1st ed Bretonia would make a for a great setting

It's possible that the license limits Cubicle 7 by restricting them from making anything new, so they're playing it extremely safe. My view is, given that TEW is being remade, I think we have most of what we need for Empire source material there. I'll give a pass for the Starter Set and it's follow on Ubersreik Adventures and the reprints of the old classics. Beyond this, it's seems a little overkill.

There is the new big campaign by Gav Thorpe that we know little about. It, allegedly, is set to start in Marienburg and voyages out to the New World. It *might* give us source books for Marienburg/Wasteland, Naggaroth, Ulthuan and Lustria. However, I suspect we're looking at 2-3 years before this stuff starts dropping and given the lifespan of RPGs, who knows?

As they'll publish a new edition of Middenheim: City of the White Wolf to go with Power Behind the Throne and an original sourcebook on Altdorf to go with Empire in Ruins, it wouldn't surprise me to get a new edition of Marienburg: Sold Down the River with the rumored new campaign...

(And I have to say that I am not impressed at all by Gavin Thorpe, If my memories as former Warhammer Fantasy Battle serve me right, but that is so long ago that I couldn't argue on that... Just a feeling from blurry memories)

I’d like to see something that hasn’t been done in previous editions. Elf sourcebook, maybe?
