It looks like some of the Forgeworld official Kislev work will see the light in the forthcoming Total War: Warhammer 3.

Possibly more interesting is the first GW-approved material on Cathay appearing in the same place:

I've not played Total War, but it could be an eastern-themed edition or something?

We should also get Ogres and Chaos Dwarfs, probably as DLC (although maybe in TW:W2). I think there's a good chance of Nagash making an appearance down the line, too.

TW:W1 was the Old World, TW:W2 was the New World (fantasy Americas + meta fantasy Atlantis). However, if you own both, you get Mortal Empires, which is more of a sandbox containing a new map covering most of TW:W1 and TW:W2. This will continue with TW:W3, which should give us a map with almost all of the Warhammer World. On top of that, I think the Chaos Wastes are being added in TW:W3. So, I think the TW:W3 will be an eastern theme, and the mega map campaign, which is the bit I'm most looking forward too, will just be everything.

If I'm being cynical, maybe they're doing Cathay so they can reuse assets from Total War: Three Kingdoms. Either way, I'm interested in what they come up with.

Total War game 3 will be Chaos-focused, so adding Ungol and Cathayan warriors will provide assets for some of the large Chaos tribes like the Kurgan and Hung. Each of the big 4 Chaos gods will be a separate faction with multiple Legendary Lord options. I'm guessing cross-faction daemons will be allowed at limited availability, to stay consistent with WFB 8e, and that there won't be a clear Daemon/Warrior split in the rosters.

Cathay is an exciting addition from a WFRP perspective. I'm a little surprised that Cathay is being added before the Southern Realms (Tilea, Estalia, Border Princes).

I probably should have made that clearer - Eastern themes but Chaos is the big deal. I've read that part of the game will be in the Realm of Chaos, but I'm unsure if this means Chaos Wastes or the Warp. If it's the latter, it probably explains the long wait.

Yeah, some of the later WFB publications conflated the Realms of Chaos with the Chaos Wastes, so it's anyone's guess whether game 3 will use the Realms of Chaos map from 8e as an "off-world" region where only Daemons can go (and maybe some high-level wizard heroes). That would be so cool. I believe the part of the Chaos Wastes nearest the Warpgate is almost indistinguishable from the Realms of Chaos because it's so saturated with magic, so that might be what they're referring to.

Very interesting in the TW and TT games.

I am personally mostly interested in Kislev and Khorne (used to have a Khornate Warriors of Chaos army alongside my Dawi army in the TT game) but Cathay, Chaos and so on also looks interesting. Time will tell but from previous experience this should come very good. :)

Yeah, although I think that Cathay might draw in more players than the Southern Realms would. Still, a Tilea based on mercenary armies, a Border Princes which could perhaps be a made to essentially thrive in anarchy and disorder? And something for Estalia but I know to little on what to suggest. :(

Apparently TW3 preorders have been the top seller in China on Steam for several days. This could be a huge breakthrough for expanding the Warhammer fanbase.

Regarding the Southern Realms, most people are assuming they'll be fleshed out using some of the units from the Dogs of War army book from WFB 6e. In that case, it makes sense to save them for last because DoW are a hodgepodge of factions, including Kislevites and Ogres. Shoehorning DoW into TW3 might require some creativity, but Tomb Kings were shoehorned into TW2 so it should be doable.

china piles in on anything chinese, then actively attacks it for anything not catering to chinese sensibilities in my experience. they'll get plenty of sales but the fanbase for that total war is going to be a nightmare. they also won't care about the rest of the factions (and thus the actual setting) in any degree.

i'm not expecting the dogs of war at this point. their two key features of being taken by other armies and being a wide array of special unique units don't work well for this game, and CA's been lazy wherever they can get away with it....

Well, let's hope that Cathay's inclusion into Total War and Warhammer in more details will go well. Here's hoping for the best. :)

Yep and with the ressurection of the Old World as Battle Game right after the corner we could have some cool canon lore to grasp. Yes Hoping for the best. No more fan made units and army books XD
