I have read every article posted on the Warhammer Community website about The Old World, and i reread both the articles you linked to on the presumption that you were linking to them because they stated that the miniatures would be as you wrote. The most recent articles on Warhammer Community about Kislev have some photos of some old WFB miniatures and some concept art for new units. In terms of speculation, insider information and leaks, and articles summing up 'what we know so far', from what i've read it's not certain that Games Workshop will be releasing a WFB type of game and it's not certain what scale any miniatures will be in. There is reportedly one industry insider that Games Workshop might use 15mm or 8mm.

(This is quite apart from many miniatures that are described as 32mm scale not actually being of a consistant scale, being 'heroic' in scale, and not actually having a greater level of detail than 28mm miniatures can.)
Agreed, 32mm would cause problems ranking up if the bases are 20mm square. In terms of aesthetics, 32mm could feasibly mix with 28mm if one was starting from scratch, but adding a new unit of 32mm models to an existing 28mm army would look odd.

I've mixed 15mm and 18mm historicals into the same unit, but only after adding a thin layer of putty under the short ones to raise them up a tad.

Given the potential crossover with AoS ranges though, 32mm probably does make sense for the Old World game. Before it was just daemons that crossed over with 40K, but now every army has crossover units.

Yeah, I've bought some AOS stuff and I'm amazed at how much larger it is than my old WFB circa 1992 minis.

I'm under the impression, from the coincidence, that the change in the management structure was what gave some people at Games Workshop the opportunity to recreate The Old World.
This is probably true. Coupled with the success of Total War, there was likely a realisation that the cow was prematurely slaughtered.

they deftly dodged the question of what the scale for new minis will be like there- which has been my main concern. i mean, i know it's GW and they tend to be slightly less organized than the average summer pick-up tourney on these things but the longer they dance around on info the more grognardy i'm gonna feel....

They did and they didn't. It's not 10mm or 15mm, but it could be anything from true 28mm scale or a 'heroic' 32mm 35mm sliding scale.

Well, the quote is: "The scale will remain the same as it ever was. We want people to be able to use their old armies if they wish, or to start new ones, or to add new miniatures to old armies – whatever they want."
