Re: Totally 'Ammered: An attempt at converting Runes to 4e
i don't think balance matters too much (this edition is something of a mess already) but lorewise i do have a couple nitpicks. Firstly is you've made learning runes comparatively dirt easy in contrast to the lore. to an extent this is unavoidable (dwarfs spend decades as an apprentice before going ...

Totally 'Ammered: An attempt at converting Runes to 4e
I've had a go at converting Runes and the Runesmith Career to 4e. I'd appreciate any feedback on it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PGV3XDPe3Zf3Ymx7cQYzvEZXXQFN3v_so8A7KQS05_M/edit?usp=drivesdk The systems should be about as complex as 2e but the effects may be a bit beefier. Do they work, thou...

Re: Some advice for advancing my wizard
Thanks for your reply and sorry in the delay. You're of course right about not being able to take Talents from earlier career steps but since I haven't yet changed the career it's no problem to say, I'll take Aetheric attunemt and then advance to level 2. But pointing this out has made me realize t...

Yep... sometimes prices are too weird. Bread 1 silver - sack of flour 10 bronze. Hmmm let me calculate that... sack of flour i have 4 breads... hell ill be rich (I know i know offtopic but i could not resist) Yeah but bread is flour + yeast + salt + sugar + fuel + labour. Flour is cheaper than brea...

Re: WFRP 2 career advances
A quick hack: add (50 - opponent's skill). So if your opponent has Melee 35 and you have 35, you'll both get a 50% chance (35 + [50 - 35 = 15] = 50%). If you have 25 and your opponent has 35, you roll 40% and they roll 60%. Using the to-hit table, two 35% opponents would each have a 50% chance of hi...

That sounds very cool.FasterThanJesus wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 8:16 am FYI - Cubicle 7 are developing another large campaign that will follow The Enemy Within based largely in The New World. I believe Gavin Thorpe is author. There isn't much more info. It's been mentioned once or twice in interviews and podcats.

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills
thinking about it i probably would've not had melee(basic) as part of the human or wood elf skillsets either, so it was more common and to discourage the "everyone should be good in a fight" mentality.... That sounds sensible. I would just give people an option: e.g., Trade (Any) OR one c...

Re: Cathay sourcebook?
Nothing wrong with being "woke" and wanting your modern RPG product to fit modern sensibilities (especially if they are your own sensibilities). I don't want to speak for Fox, but I don't think he's saying the developer of any new Asian-inspired fantasy RPG has to be Asian, just that that...

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills
What is "optimal for the role" about a halfling having experience using a sling? If you play a halfling servant why should they know how to fight? From a metagame standpoint the servant is just tough and nimble, not a trained warrior. So why would optimizing them involve slings? It's more...

Re: Houseruling the heck out of 4E
Fair enough. I'm not really a fan of big pools and table metacurrencies, as they feel too abstract, but I get that's very personal and many tables love them. 2d20 never did it for me as a system, but I like traditional games rather than newer ones, on the whole. As a GM it can admittedly be hard to ...

Re: Houseruling the heck out of 4E
Some thoughts: Assisting - this is more complicated than before. I'd prefer a straight +10% modifier or a free reverse. Opposed rolls - how do you manage SLs for damage? Or is it all-or-nothing? Scaling combat skills works, even if it's inelegant. Have you considered the Brigandyne method instead? O...

Yes, the rule is you can transfer to any first tier career in any class, subject to "GM may require in-game justification" (see p49). It just costs more to switch to a career in a different class. Note that Sali skips a bunch of levels in her transfer!... [and] ...The first adventure in t...

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills
The way I see it, every species ought to be able to start with a combat skill. As such, I'd let the halfling swap one of their starting skills for Ranged. There may, however, be precedent to suggest that halflings are supposed to have Ranged (Sling) and there was a mistake in the core book. In the c...

Re: Halfling Size
before my group decided the best way to play was to use a different system, i was going to try not losing advantage against opponents smaller than you. a case of not sweating the small stuff, if you feel what i mean. Thanks. It seems surprising that they just didn't increase larger creatures' WS, B...

Is there another hack that would work? E.g., no advantage versus creatures 2 or more steps larger? Or removing halfling bonuses altogether to just be done with it? Or both?

Re: WFRP 4 analysis
I've recently been reading Brigandyne as a 'rules-lite' version or WFRP 2e. It's in French and my Language (Bretonnian) (AKA GCSE French) is rusty, but hopefully I've used Google Translate correctly and grokked this. I think it provides a nice alternative for those who dislike the 'unknown modifier'...

Re: Simplified Lores and Languages
i always leave lores as an abstract. each field of knowledge is applicable to a lot of things If you know how to apply it and i'm happy to give bonuses to people that have an interesting argument to justify their idea and make the roll. at the same time they're a great tool for the GM to drag playe...

Simplified Lores and Languages
Lores and Languages strike me as Skills that are either ignored (advance 1% and leave it) or are an XP tax for completing a Career. Instead, it struck me that you could handle these as broader Skills instead. Option 1: Profession and Native Skills Everyone receives the Skills Profession (Career) and...

Front-loading modifiers
There are a lot of mods in this game, and that's the main thing we're concerned about right now. We've managed Advantage, so the next thing is size modifiers. Is there an easy way to front-load the work? E.g., give orcs a flat mod to opposed rolls, or increase their damage, or increase their Wounds,...
