Re: WHFR 4e - Are Wizards playable?

After finally reading the Magic chapter, and reading this discussing, I completely understand CapnZapp's point: CN 0 spells are more powerful (or at least as powerful) than high level spells because of high chances of overcast. Still, I'd like to fix this without introducing a completely different ...

Re: 4th - Magic points?

While the rules do seem a bit vague, there are some things I interpret in the rules that others aren't seeing. Channelling is useful for younger Wizards trying to reach the high SLs needed for casting spells, particularly all the ones they are casting while using a Grimoire. So an apprentice good a...

Re: Damage while defending

Am I understand this correctly? My opponent attacks and I defend,, I get 3 sl and he only gets 2sl, I determine hit location and damage, and he loses an advantage? You don't do damage on defence unless you a) roll a Critical, or b) have and choose to activate the Riposte Talent. You just gain 1 Adv...

Re: 4th - Magic points?

Yeah, I only found this FAQ2 https://www.cubicle7games.com/4919-2/ that only says that it does not mean you don't have to roll a casting test. And admittedly, language Magick is explicitly mentioned in the talent description. Still, I'm rather sure to have read something at least semi-official that...

Re: 4th - Magic points?

I just recently switched from 1st to 4th. Are there magic points in 4th edition? Or some drawbacks from casting too much magic? No. If you get Instinctive Diction and Perfect Pitch up, you can cast relatively quickly. Get War Wizard later and you're laughing. Spam Dart to build up Advantage, then c...

Did you use a template to design it? In InDesign or Publisher, perhaps? If so, I'd really appreciate cribbing it, as I have two fan supplements I want to layout.

Re: Combat clarifications

The other big reason to use Dodge is against bigger enemies. For every step larger than you, your opponent inflicts a -2 SL penalty on Opposed Melee Tests because they're harder to engage with. If you're a Human going against an Ogre, that's one step up in size, so you take -2 SL If you were playing...

Re: Combat clarifications

You can do 'full defence' instead, which does use up your action, but it lets you use Dodge against everyone on your turn at +20. Otherwise, just use it like Melee in an Opposed Test.

Re: Ease of maxing WS

I just wanted to check our group are doing this right... One player rolled 38 to begin with for WS, and also rolled up the Warrior Born talent, to give him an effective WS of 43. Being a gamey kinda chap, and realising that WS was a key stat after a few combats, he decided to maximise his XP spendi...

Re: Critic Damage at 0 Wounds or I have to wait for -1 Wounds?

Further Question in Crits. When falling below Zero Wounds, you take a Crit, but at -20 on the table unless the damage exceeds your Toughness. Does the -20 also apply to Crits from rolling a Crit in combat, or are they a flat D100 Crit table roll? We have been playing with the -20 modifier, and we a...

Re: WFRP4 Dodge - When, How, and Why?

Orin J. is right. Additionally, when fighting larger opponents, Melee Tests take a -2SL penalty for each step up in size they are. Dodge doesn't carry that same penalty.

-1 Wounds. And any time the attacker rolls a critical on the attack roll.

Re: WFRP4 Dodge - When, How, and Why?

Usually you can use Dodge instead of Melee in any opposed Melee Test. There's no bonus to this roll unless you have a shield or Talent (or Advantage), but it does not use up your usual turn. That means you can still defend every attack that comes at you, and still take a turn to attack, run away, or...

Re: Totally 'Ammered: An attempt at converting Runes to 4e

How do we feel about 'sealing' spells with Fortune or Resilience Points? I'm just wondering if I can make it more interesting than a series of rolls. I think giving up a Resilience point is a ready-made mechanic for introducing "permanent" magical effects. It's expensive enough that you w...

Again, sorry for the delay in responding. Anyway, I'll ask the GM if he'd oppose to me taking talents from a former level (at least when I have already taken them once). I think he already mentioned once that he'd be ok with that. Thanks! No problem. I find it's tricky keeping track of whats availa...
