Re: Combat example
Those blog posts read as if a fan is just messing around with a system; far from thought-through experienced rules design. No surprise then how the book ended up the way it did. I definitely don't buy the "Lead designer (Dom) and Lead producer (Andy) do not agree" explanation. More like tw...

Re: Comparison with Zweihander
Obviously the game is Warhammer with the serial numbers filed off. But calling it "theft" is ignorant and incorrect. The game has been published by a legitimate publisher; do you seriously think they would have gone ahead if they weren't confident they could hold off Games Workshop's attac...

My hopes and expectations for WFRP4 (repost)
Just realized that while I posted this at StS I didn't transfer it here to WoC. (I did post it at rpg.net but since the moderation there makes it hard to discuss a game in anything else than a positive light, I hesitate to revisit that thread) At the time I write this, almost nothing is known (at le...

Re: Combat example
When my campaign draws to a close, the "houserule" my friend will use (handing over the GM baton) is called "going back to 2nd edition". Two years ago, we were quite done with 2E. In retrospect, unfortunately, 2E comes across as a highly-polished wonder of balance and quality. Al...

Re: Combat example
The developers of 4th Edition are amateurs. They have completely missed that when you take a fairly balanced core (2E) and then just up the numbers, you end up with an unbalanced mess. That is, in 4E it is all to common that an offensive stat completely overshadows a defensive stat. This goes for co...

Re: Resilience and Reslove??
Hello, I will be running Wfrp 4e for the 1st time in the next 2 weeks. I have Been running games for decades just not Wfrp 4e. With that said I have played Dying of the Light using 4e and really like it, however Resilience and Resolve seem a bit to much for me. I get they serve a purpose but is tha...

Re: Combat example
CapnZapp "I could see if I could summarize one of the characters' stats, though, if that would be of interest?" Yes, I would love to see those "monsters" ;-) I'm always testing low-level stats, so that's why probably 4th edition with its mess, probably is ok-ish for me. But I di...

Re: Combat example
I hope you're not using the argument "The book's monsters are fine except when you go to extremes like Zapp has". No, I'm saying that having to increase a limited number of opponent stats is a perfectly normal part of rpging for any game line not D&D sized. There's nothing unusual abo...

Re: Combat example
Have you discussed Magic Points elsewhere? I’d be very interested in a whole post about this. Tried using your forum's search, got the reply that "magic" and "points" are "too common" words and excluded from the search.  Maybe using google site search? Edit...

Re: Combat example
Yeah, the 5500 exp was my first thought for why he had to go way beyond the book's stat blocks. Quite aside from the question of whether the book's stat blocks are suitable even for beginning character opponents, you're always going to have to adjust up as your campaign advances. Or start adding in...

Re: Combat example
I understand that it went well for the party, maybe to well. He had already upped the stats of the beastmen and it is surprising that it still was relatively easy to beat them. I have no 4e experience (due to missing VTT support), so I cannot judge, if this should be expected at 5500 XP. Well, let'...

Re: Combat example
I second this "To be clear @CapnZapp, is this example of play an example of how combat should go, or an example of how combat shouldn't go?". I would like some thoughts and analysis to go with the example! As I'm still in gaming limbo I have to chance to test things out myself and have to...

Re: Combat example
@CapnZapp could you also post characters simplified stats? I'm learning wfrp 4th combat rules and would like to look at your example and compare with mine (low level stats characters). If I led you to believe we are using a system that's simplified on a more general level, I beg your forgiveness. A...

Re: unbalanced races
Not to defend advantage, but "rushed and sloppy" doesnt' apply to it. The advantage system is a extremely thoroughly designed and carefully balanced system- just one that was then carelessly slapped onto an incompatible and entirely nonfunctional system of "rolls don't matter!" ...

Combat example
This posted mostly to assure everyone that when I'm talking about 4E I'm basing it on actual play experience. For example, last night the heroes stayed at an inn that was assaulted by Beastmen. (The layout of the inn was taken from Night of Blood; the explanation for the attack was taken from Karls ...

Re: unbalanced races
Regarding Advantage. Please realize it's unfixable. I have a grasp on probabilities and we tried various fixes, such as limiting you to being able to only gain one Advantage per round. In the end it just became too complicated. And still too good. As has been established each +10% is more valuable i...
