Re: Martin McKenna
Totsuzenheni, I cannot overestimate how much McKenna's art sold me on Warhammer. McKenna's art had this life to it that other fantasy art just didn't, and still doesn't. I don't know how he pulled it off, but even the Wittgenstein cockroach in DotR and all those little skulls in Grapes of Wrath loo...

Re: Combat question and -ve SL
Hum. Not sure I follow you. The difference between a winning of -1 and losing of -3 is the same as the difference between winning -3 and losing of -5. Notably +2. Hence you won by 2 SL so do +2 damage (+SB +weapon damage). The difference is always positive. It can only be negative if you roll fewer...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I understand the cynical commercial reasons, I just don't understand how and why a fantasy race could be equalled to earth ethnies. Well, to quote a Moderator in a recent ban on someone at RPG.net: Oher people have mentioned why the treatment of some minorities is mirrored in the way "evil rac...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I'm not offended, actually, I just don't understand how those tweaks can be justified. :) The justification is that: a significant portion of the existing player base does find this kind of thing extremely offensive. a potential part of the market is being lost due to lack of inclusivity there is i...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
And how are the Drow political? Black skin (and on the cover of Queen of the Spiders , not even literal black, but brown). The very concept of a wholly evil race that should be attacked and killed at every opportunity, which is also part of the problem with Orcs. You know, a justification for genoc...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. From my experience, RGP.net objects to anything that isn't overwhelming enthusiastic support. CapnZap getting banned from criticizing WFRP v4 for example. As I recall, his various bans and warnings ban...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. I'm fine with that. After the site gained a reputation as a safe place for minorities, it dealt with a lot of trolling from bigots so they had to clamp down. Yeah, same here. Sometimes I think they go ...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
The "grow a pair" comment did make me chuckle. Over at RPG.net, that would have received at least a warning for the implication that you need balls to have the guts to do something. I meant that we should grow a pair of boobs. :) :) To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They'r...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I still think of Warpstone as the best days of WFRP material. Alas i no longer have them but as i recall it was the very first Warpstone that had rules for prosthetics. Thanks for the thumbs up for Warpstone . Yes, I think the prosthetics article was in the very first issue, but it's one of the thr...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I would say white cis male writers in general could stand to grow a pair and step outside of their comfort zones. The Tales of the Arabian Nights storytelling boardgame was written by non-Muslims so it can be done. I think that's precisely what's been happening for many years, which has led to a lo...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
One thing that would help, I think, would be actively asking some women, some non-white people and some trans folk to write for the game. That's perhaps the best way to see a bit more diversity in the actual material. I was always sad that Server Goddess didn't have time to post more on StS and tha...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
That's just one quote, but if you read the newer WFB material the message is consistent. Norscans are barbaric monsters with no redeeming qualities. Anyone who came to Warhammer after 2009 would be likely to find Brian Craig-style philosophizing about relative morality jarring. Karl-Franz' mutant t...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
With the social justice movements of recent years (e.g. LGBTQ, MeToo, BLM etc.) where do you feel WFRP stands (or should stand) in terms of representation? Are you open to WFRP re-balancing racial and gender roles as Age of Sigmar did? How far should WFRP stray from medieval demographic simulation?...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
Only fools claim to understand Chaos, for by definition, Chaos is inhuman and incomprehensible. Mortal sages and mystics who dare ponder the nature of Chaos are driven mad, or else succeed only in attracting the attentions of the fell creatures of Chaos. Many wise men have been carried alive and sc...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I was thinking about this in the context of Covid-19 the other day. In the past I found Nurgle relatable in the abstract, but now that people are actually having "Covid parties" and cults of Nurgle are practically a real thing, I find myself not relating at all. But in the newer Warhammer...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I would like to see roleplaying in general have a far wider player base, so I'm all for increased representation in all areas. Some people might complain that it's unrealistic and breaks their immersion to see to an Altdorfian Watchwoman with Cathayan heritage... but I see a character with a story t...

Re: Monuments of the Reikland
Congratulations and all that! I saw some very positive feedback on one of the Facebook groups. The only thing that's stopped me picking up a copy is the hope that it will eventually become part of a printed product.

Re: The logistics (and logic) of Castle Wittgenstein (
With regard to food... It's magic. Or, to put it another way, the castle has become an inherently abnormal place. It's Chaotic. It behaves oddly... but in some ways normally. The thing about larders is that they're meant to contain food. So, the castle's larders contain food. Just enough to keep the...

You may be thinking of 'Stomach for a Fight: Ogre PCs' by Richard Leon in Warpstone 21.
