Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions

There is one iconic thing that is missing: art of the silly contact gestures in Altdorf. I was looking forward to the way that would look in the WFRP 4 style. Now I'm a little disappointed. Luckily I have the original. That art originally appears in Death on the Reik . Presumably we'll see some rec...

Re: My hopes and expectations for WFRP4 (repost)

I'm not very familiar with 2E mechanics, so I'm curious: did 2E actually "tone down the importance of armor" compared to 1E? In 1E armour was almost useless while Toughness made a huge difference - hence the infamous "Naked Dwarf Syndrome". Did that get even worse in 2E?

Thank you. Finding good and fitting art is part of the fun (and the challenge). :)

Re: Imperial Calendar

Using the Gregorian calendar is easier, but when used with already wrote campaign, need some rework -of the campaign, when they are long, in order to get it last less time, as you reduce a year of 400 days to a year of 365,2425 days. If you do not your Gregorian calendar, which is already disconnec...

Re: Imperial Calendar

I have to admit I just skip the Imperial calendar completely and go with the regular Gregorian calendar (adding in the various Holidays at appropriate times). Even discounting the issues mentioned in the OP, I'm too old to be arsed with remembering made-up names for weekdays and months. They also, I...

Re: Enemy In Shadows Companion Available

IIRC the story with Cicatrice and the Mecklenbergs, "Ignorant Armies" (by Kim Newman alias Jack Yeovil), is really old. And lots of stuff in Newman's stories (much of Drachenfels, indeed) is incompatible with later Warhammer canon.

Re: Enemy In Shadows Companion Available

Such condition of being 25 years old might explain why Karl France would had been crowned emperor in 2502 I.C. (the year of his 25th birthday) while his father, Luitpold (also called Ferrand, in Letters from Sylvania ), is said by Warhammer Novels to had passed away in 2491 I.C. (which imply an int...

Re: The world's oldest RPG in the old World

I can't see how it would be Chainmail no matter how you count. Chainmail was not an RPG but a miniatures ruleset. Now, admittedly, the first edition of D&D didn't bill itself as a role-playing game either (and indeed mentions almost nothing about role-playing). The term seems first to have appea...

Re: Enemy In Shadows Companion Available

A couple initial impressions after skimming it: - I was pleasantly surprised to see that the description of the Empire and its various states and provinces, while modified, was definitely based on the 1E descriptions from the original TEW rather than the 2E and later WFB ones. So Middenheim is assoc...

Re: Looking for really dark adventure

There are some quite nasty adventures for the OSR game Lamentations of the Flame Princess , several of them ostensibly set in 17th century Europe so easy to reskin for WFRP. For example: Forgive Us - a band of thieves steal the wrong treasure and unleash a magical disease causing horrible mutations....

Re: Dogs of War: WFRP Weapons vs WFB Weapons

Another thing to consider, regarding different damage / wound levels etc, is the different scale. A single combat roll in WFB, unlike WFRP, doesn't mean a single blow but fighting over a longer time. A whole WFRP combat would probably take place within one combat turn in WFB. So I wouldn't sweat try...

Re: Roughs Nights and Hard Days Impressions/Review

Unless it's a new adventure using the same name then 'A Night at the Opera' is not new. It was first published in 'Adventures Unlimited' magazine no.3 in 1995 and as i recall had stats for various RPG systems, including first edition WFRP. It was then republished for second edition WFRP. Interestin...

Re: Roughs Nights and Hard Days Impressions/Review

From the foreword of the book, only the Three Feathers is an old scenario, I beleive the others are new and added as a continuation of the Three Feathers. In fact only "A Day at the Trials" and "A Night at the Opera" are brand new. "Nastassia's Wedding" is a slight rew...

Re: The world's oldest RPG in the old World

This blog chronicles a campaign that's basically the early parts of The Enemy Within run with modified D&D rules (I think 5E, but can't be sure): The Dark Beneath (They have some house rules posted here .) This version notably beefs up the combat encounters - lots more and tougher monsters - whi...
