Re: Travel times for Death on the Reik
And to make things even more absurd, the Enemy in Shadows Companion suggests ridiculously fast traveling speeds - something like four times the actual reasonable rates (like 112 miles a day on horseback). I have no idea what's going on here.

Re: Rules for sailing on the Rivers
A fairly bizarre decision, IMO. All the addition of the first half of "Carrion Up the Reik" does is end the adventure on an anticlimax rather than on the epic climactic raid on Castle Wittgenstein. In the meantime, there are simple and workable if slightly clunky sailing rules in the 1E De...

Re: Letter question (Enemy Within spoiler)
I don't thinks there's any implication that Gideon knows or cares about Kastor Lieberung or the Purple Hand at all. From page 54: "At this point the Characters have no idea of how or why the bounty hunter died, but they may have the opportunity to find out later in the adventure. Gideon, the Da...

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
Many months later, I finally found time to post a more proper review of sorts on my campaign blog.

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
The original pantheon is plainly a quickly hashed-out D&D-style pantheon based around the needs of an adventuring party rather than a society. I found it didn't work for me - especially since the world didn't otherwise look or act like a polytheistic setting - so I rewrote the religions heavily ...

Re: How double does the double need to be?
In a world without photographs, people don't need to look particularly identical to be easily mistaken for one another. That said, I'd say it all depends on what you're going to do with the plot. (I'm not expecting the new version to give us anything juicier than the original on Kastor Lieberung.) I...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. From my experience, RGP.net objects to anything that isn't overwhelming enthusiastic support. CapnZap getting banned from criticizing WFRP v4 for example. As I recall, his various bans and warnings ban...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
A bit more on this: As I said, it is not a given that people accumulate enough mutations to flip to the other side. And in official materials there are enough examples of mutants who are not dangerous, and who if anything, deserve protection and sympathy, instead of destruction. Master Lukas Pfandl...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
Personally I think WH witch hunters are a similar case. Robert E Howard might not have intended misogyny with Solomon Kane, but given the general public's association of witch hunts, it's a bad look for videogames etc. to be parading Witch Hunters as one of Warhammer's ironic heroes of Order. There...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
What 'new concept'? Mutants being victims of oppression has been a staple of WFRP since forever and is certainly present in the new 4E material. What would invalidate that? Mutants can still be victims of oppression, sure, but they can no longer function as metaphors for RW oppressed groups because...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
Yes I would agree, although social justice in WFRP has traditionally involved anti-government class struggles (e.g. freeing the peasants of Wittgendorf, investigating taxes and town councils). It's possible that "friendly mutants" were metaphors for oppressed RW groups, but that angle doe...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
I'm a big fan of playing games for the sake of it and keeping my political inclinations out of it (which is easy, I have disdain for all spectrums of the UK political spectrum). I'm not particularly interested in involving modern gender politics in my game, as it's not something that really interes...

Re: Alternate Castle Wittgenstein maps
This map looks great. I am looking forward to seeing your version of the Inner Bailey. Thank you! I've realised since that some of my calculations and scales were off, so there'll be a "second edition" of the Outer Bailey along with the Inner. I'll see if I find some time to work on it ne...

Re: Cathay sourcebook?
At least Warhammer-wise, it's quite obvious that by far the most vocal group of people "looking to take offense" are the boys who whinge and moan endlessly when someone dares to put some women or even non-white people in "their" games.
