Re: Richard Halliwell

I'm very late to post this tribute but Richard Halliwell was a great games designer.

Not WFRP, but he wrote Slaughter Margin a Judge Dredd RPG scenario. I played this. It was amazing.

RIP Mr Halliwell. I hope you're writing and designing in the great beyond.

Re: Monster/Enemy NPC combat actionz

To clarify the damage they use is based on an assumption of the weapon they use. Generally this is a hand weapon so SB+4. Hence an Orc is +8. This then allows a GM to add weapon qualities or different weapon strengths to the NPCs. HOWEVER I would strongly advise not worrying too much about the proce...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

I would argue that the designers and writers of Warhammer are, effectively, making a statement that human sacrifice to appease a diety represents disordered behaviour that is intrinsically Chaotic within their fiction. In real world religion the theology behind sacrifice is more nuanced and complica...

Fair.

For the record I've deleted a point which probably didn't add much and might have been a bit facetious.

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Are there any published sources that state that the Warhammer Gods of Law view burning at the stake as specifically a human sacrifice? (Rather than just a grizzly punishment for a serious crime). I don't think there are. There are lots of sources and examples of Chaos cults and religions using human...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Leaving aside real world history this all started with idea that the Chaos Dwarfs and Hashut could be a cult of law. I think this is preposterous. The example of using Aztecs didn't convince me. So my question would be in warhammer lore are there any examples of Cults of Law conducting bonde fide, b...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Thank you for your unironic answer. So are you thinking that Aztec gods are Chaotic Gods or are aspects of the gods of Chaos? Do you believe that such Gods really exist in our real world or do you think that Chaos would in fact be unrelated to Chaos gods? If so, is being "Chaotic" not a f...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

My thought was that there was a strong chance that players would begin to wonder why there was a mill being built in the middle of an out of the way swamp. It seems a ridiculous place to put it: it doesn’t appear to be conveniently located and, since the ground is swampy won’t offer a suitable stro...

Re: Rules - Shield use

So basic shields are largely pointless - you get two armour points and defensive, but you get -20 to defend (effectively giving your opponent +2 damage), so a net of only +1. Sure you get armour to defend against opposition crits, but at the same time you decrease your own chance to crit and increa...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

Visitor Q: Glad to hear you've enjoyed it. To be honest, my low opinion of If Looks Could Kill is mostly based on how overwritten and hard to follow it is. It could be a fine scenario if someone deleted half the text and reorganised the rest. I generally dislike linear scenarios, so I would have to...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

During COVID related lockdown in the UK I agreed to run WFRP for people who had never played an rpg before. I rarely use published adventures but for time constraints I decided to run if Looks Could Kill more or less as written with little modfication. I have to say having played it I completly disa...

Re: Informations Rev. Garret Lepper

Over the years I have also tried to find Garret. At University in London (2004ish) I had the privilege of being in a short WFRP campaign he GMd. He also introduced me to the Game of Thrones board game and afterwards I started reading the books. I lost touch after this and similar to yourself no luck...

The players taking a contract to sink a mercenary captain's boat (by a rival mercenary crew) and discovering not only were they pawns in a plot to assassinate an Elector Count but the mercenary captain was an Ogre... hilarity ensued.

Re: How long does it take for Elves to physically and mentally mature?

For me I think there is a comparative element to this. By elf standards an elf may take 80 or 90 years or longer to reach full mental and emotional maturity. By human standards an elf would seem fully mentally and emotionally mature within the same time frame as they do (20-30 years). But that's bec...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Not sure I buy Hashut being a god of law even within homebrew stuff. Kad'ai fire demons, Bull centaurs, fangs and mass human sacrifice all seem pretty Chaotic to me. Seems like you'd have to write out so much official material there's not much point keeping the name.

Re: Maps - which are you using?

Mostly the MadAlfreds ones. But I sometimes use other ones if they have particular features on them. But in practice after years of worrying about this kind of thing I've found it really doesn't matter. The PCs in my games have rarely actually had access to a map of the Empire (if a detailed accurat...

Re: The hunchback of Altdorf

Good ideas. Thanks a lot. He will be very stealthy indeed, fast and athletic, he must be able to climb roofs and bell towers. I like the possibility of the mutant/hunchback having a Voldemort face somewhere. Give home some more personality or personalities. My first thought was a mutation that only...
