Re: Rules - Shield use
Yep, Parry is harder to come by and the weapons fewer. You can find some more in Forien's Armoury.
Personally, my go-to is Melee (Fencing) with a Rapier and Side-Sword, but there are limited options for that (it's a good choice for nobles, though).

Re: Casting and Advantage
If that rule (causing damage without an Opposed Test) didn't apply to magic, it would be more specific. E.g., 'causing damage with a Ranged attack'. It's broad for a reason.

Re: Rules - Shield use
Learn Melee (Parry). It's better in the long run. But yes, you get Defensive even if you use your hand weapon. Though, the APs from a shield are not to be sniffed at. Crit negation is literally life or death in this system. (But yes, you need to defend with the shield to get them.) If you can just f...

Re: When does Halflings' Resistance (Chaos) talent apply?
Yes, this is it. I think maybe the errata clarifies it?SigmariteOrWrong wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 3:05 amResist Chaos is about resisting Corruption. The Halfling auto-passes the first test each session with SL equal to TB, then gets a bonus SL on all successful resistance tests afterwards in that session.

Re: Reloading
I don't see shooting once every 2-3 turns as particularly powerful, especially as you have to reload in between and, at our table, combats rarely last beyond 2 rounds anyway. But again, YMMV. In such cases, a second weapon might be the idea solution. Note that it isn't uncommon for it to take 2-3 r...

Re: A Gimmick of Cubicle 7
Yeah, I would've thought they'd have applied the discount at their end. It's always easier to get the discount before ordering, rather than afterward.

Re: Reloading
In my opinion, while Ranged weapons can be good, there are enough balancing factors already in place (e.g., Unopposed Tests, failure ending the Test even if it would be Opposed, you can't Move and shoot without penalty in the same turn, you can usually only gain +1 Advantage per Round). Melee combat...

Re: Entering a Class, Does It Stick?
The intent would seem to be that when you move Class, you move Class. So you lose the privileges of that previous Class unless you move back. Given the way you can only access Talents in your current Career tier, for example, I think there's a strong case for RAW implying that Classes and Careers ar...

Re: Reloading
Yeah, it uses your Action. So you can't shoot and Reload in the same turn unless you use Talents. I'm lenient and allow a stationary character to attempt a Reload if they don't take a Move that round, in addition to taking their regular Action. Thanks for the responses; the rulebook (as in a lot of...

You could ask this on the Rat Catcher's Guild Discord? They have a Foundry channel and the creator of the module responds frequently (and quickly).

Re: The Beast Form spell
The biggest grey area is that it requires GM fiat to decide which Skills and Talents are commonsense to use. Which, if you're expecting a rule for every situation, might not be what you expected (especially as 4e often does give a rule for every situation). It not that, I can work with grey, I can ...

Re: The Beast Form spell
*Sight* I guess I was wrong. Damn the more I run this system the less polished it feels, I may have to revert back to 2nd or house rule the hell out of it. I totally get this impulse. 4e is geared towards offering a selection of rules and choices. So it's definitely more granular, and in places it'...

Re: The Beast Form spell
We now have dev confirmation on The Rat Catchers Guild, and it was as I suspected: you keep all stats that aren't specifically changed, including carrying over any Skills and Talents, etc, using commonsense to adjudicate which can still be used. E.g., no pianist wolves. This has been marked for incl...

Re: The Beast Form spell
No problem. We're all cool here. :D If you read Andy's comments, he talks about using Careers as well as Traits. That includes Skills and Talents. The Bestiary can be simple (by adding Traits), but the examples Andy gives are quite detailed despite that, and pile on the Skills, Talents and Traits. I...

Re: The Beast Form spell
Sorry that just wrong, I'm guessing I have not read many other RPG systems, Monster blocks like these are meant to be quick and simple and there good reason they do not have their own skill and talents. The system even goes into great length to make it so you do not need to tinker with the stat blo...

Re: The Beast Form spell
All Creatures in the Bestiary have baseline/starting stats, so you're not supposed to use them as is. You're supposed to add Traits and Careers to them to tailor them to your table. So no, you don't just get the plain profile from the back of the book with some Characteristics swapped in. You do get...
