Re: High mage question

I'm taken what's been written above as fact. With that in mind, if someone wanted to use CapnZapp's rule but also wanted the Witch to be worth considering perhaps some penalty could be imposed on the Wizards using adjacent colours, either in terms of the mechanics of casting or learning the spells,...

Re: High mage question

That completely undermines the Witch class though. One of possibly only two benefits to playing that class was that they can use the Witch! talent to pick arcane spells from multiple colors. Give an equivalent benefit to Wizards, and there's almost no reason at all to consider the Witch class as be...

Re: High mage question

I think GW's restriction on non-elf mages blows from a player fun perspective. So my obvious houserule is to look at the color wheel and encouraging the player to pick spells from the two adjacent winds as well. A Gold Wizard can pick White and Green spells, for instance. I know there are complaints against low-Exp Wizards, but that was not what I was discussing... You might feel content with Bolt and Blast, but that doesn't change the fact that everybody else should choose these spells too. Once you want to explore all the other combat spells (all the high-CN spell...

Re: WHFR 4e - Are Wizards playable?

Put simply, I can confirm the earlier fears: 1) you never need another attack spell than Bolt or Blast. 2) you never use Channelling (in time-constrained situations like combat) The tactic to spend a few rounds amassing Advantage and then unleashing a seemingly "low level" spell is overwhelming. I ...

Re: WHFR 4e - Are Wizards playable?

...My understanding from what Cap wrote is that, at a high level, a reduction of CN could be a good idea. Every starting wizard PC can be built to about the same % skill than a combat character can be built for combat. +18 to base attribute in build, +5 for savvy, +5 Int advance, +10 skill. For hum...
