Re: Armour question

per pg. 300 of the Core book under "Flexible". Flexible armor may be worn under a layer of non-flexible armor and you gain the benefits of both. So in this case the chain and plate would offer combined protection and the leather would do nothing other than add encumbrance. EDIT: I stand co...

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills

It's an option, but a character can raise Basic skills whether or not they are Career skills, it just costs more. Same with Attributes. Talents however, are typically only available through the Career.

Re: Removing advantage from the game?

The hard cold truth is that 4E is a trainwreck of a system, designed by people that utterly lost track of the bigger picture. It is 2E, except every conceivable subsystem have been made more complicated, broken and cluttery. After playing it extensively I have concluded that there exists no simple ...

Re: Combat example

I have been doing this "level of work" for a long time and in several different systems. I personally dislike the D&D style of monsters for anything other than "hey let's kill something at random" type of sit downs. I feel that it has hand held way to many for way too long an...

Re: Combat example

Opposed rolls are not a problem in 4e, they are good. Cumulative adv and +60 bonuses yes but easily fixed. opposed rolls are specifically a problem in 4th Ed., because they're done off a single die roll so there's no curve to balance against. this means both that all things being equal there's no w...

Re: Channeling VS Channeling (Any Colour)

Given that Channeling is a Grouped skill and needs a focus and that there is a Lore of Witchcraft, I am assuming it was supposed to read Channeling (Witchcraft). That's how I'm running it. As for counting for Wizard, I would say no, as Wizards are practitioners of color/wind magic. I would say you w...

Re: unbalanced races

An elf with a bow isn't as bad as a halfling with a sling. Our group has a halfling Hunter with the highest skill in the group (and we have one of each race) at a 65 in Ranged (Sling). Here's a question, how do you handle a player bringing in a new character after they lose one? If there game has be...

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions

I'm with macd21 on this one. Having it there just to modify or ignore is a waste of word count IMHO. You also have the opposite issue to what someone said earlier. Some GM's see a date and have a hard time altering it. Played in a D&D Forgotten Realms game a couple decades back where the GM &quo...

I'll play around with it later this evening.

Re: High mage question

Here's one take on how I might do High Magic. This is somewhat off the cuff, so if you need any explanations please ask, I'm happy to go into further detail. - Arcane spells can now combine lore traits from any lore(s) the wizard knows at a -10 penalty for each additional lore. (Blast benefits from...

Re: High mage question

But what about elven High Mages, somebody might ask. Honestly, I don't give a crap . You would need thousands and thousands AND THOUSANDS of experience points before that even becomes relevant. Lemme focus on the 99% of actual Wizard characters I see in-game and not on some special snowflake Teclis...

But anyway, giving some basic rules for High Magic is certainly a thing that should be considered, by me if by no one else, for my own games.
I would be interested in your thoughts, if you would be willing to share.

Re: High mage question

If an elf has two different schools of magic to draw from, he has to keep his spell lists separate. Meaning if you know Blast for jade magic and then you learned bright magic, you would have to learn Blast again to cast it with the bright magic effects. EDIT: Yes, this means paying the full costs f...

High mage question

Question with what other thought. Elves can learn a second win of magic after a good bit of play, but how would you deal with the wind's extra effect? Does a mage with the white and red wind choose between blinding or setting ablaze or does it do both? Hopefully looking for honest on the question. D...

So, for those who have read the link below: www.cubicle7games.com/wfrp-in-defence-of-defence Would you say a player has to read it to understand the rules of defence, or are they just commentary? In other words, if I did not read the above link, would the rules for defence work fine? For me and my ...

Re: Changing Career Level

Fair enough, forgot the endeavors. However as you said, if the GM approves though. IMHO skipping a level should always be a story reason, never a "do I really have to slog through Sergeant? It's so boring, I want to go straight to Captain!" Now the OP may have actual story reasons, but fro...

Re: Changing Career Level

The basic rule is you have to have all your characteristics of the current level bought up to 10 advances, 1 talent from level 2 and any 8 of the 14 possible skills (8 from level 1 and an additional 6 from level 2) bought up to 10 advances. That's what's "RAW" is needed to advance to Wizar...

Re: New Careers?

I've warmed a litle to Knight of the Road. In RL it was a bit of a subversion anyway, and Warhammer has a quirky take on both RL history and fantasy tropes. If we want our highwaymen to fall into the more romanticised, magnificent bastard type, I think it fits. There are plenty enough of the gritte...

Careers are set up with racial norms (Dwarf only for Slayer, etc) but mentions that those races are the ones typical to those careers. The only flat out banned is Dwarf spellcaster as Magic Resistance negates the ability to cast anything and Gnome Wizards choosing any wind other than Ulgu (Grey wind...
