Re: Magic and Alignment

Off the cuff... It would suggest to me that the practice of magic, to some degree, draws on and/or is influenced by the temperament (or some such) of the practitioner, and that it feeds back upon the practitioner. I also recall it being written somewhere that souls (the souls of the dead at least) ...

Re: Character Creation

Not a problem, and you and your friends have a great time! Don't forget rule 0: Whatever the GM says goes, even if the book says otherwise.

Re: Character Creation

rules as written, they are not because you're only allowed to put additional advances into the eight starting skills (page 36: Career skills and Talents). my group agreed that it made sense to allow the normal starting limit of advances for them, but that's not the way the book does it.

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

you've run into the interesting conundrum of "how much authority does the church actually HAVE over itself". can the church make decisions on behalf of their god for political or administrative reasons? could such a conclave trust deities to accept their agreements or would they have to reconcile th...

Re: Selling

that's referring specifically to selling items acquired used, which sell for much less than full price. it's kind of confusingly worded. rather then changing the price by +/-20% depending on your roll, it looks to apply +/-10% depending on your roll to a base of 30% the value for a new item. i'm not...

Re: Are there more drugs than those listed in the CRB or OWA?

i say just homebrew- while i think there's a few more, i'm pretty sure they're plot-device things for adventures for the most part. in this case it's just not worth rifling through the books hoping the adventure bothers describing it enough to use when that's not the case 90% of the time.

Re: Parry question

Melee (parry) doesn't refer to the act of parrying in the current edition, but a class of weapons focused on being used for parries. If you do not have the skill the only issue is you don't get any bonuses for using that class of weapons. any defensive melee test is effectively a parry and operates ...

Re: Mirror of Desire 4E conversion

looking it over, seems like a pretty good conversion overall. there's a few rough bits, but that's really mostly that it's a very freeform heavy story. i will say introducing the characters at the end instead of the beginning might hurt the pacing of the text, the first thing the GM should be readin...

Re: Mirror of Desire 4E conversion

"massive undertaking" -most of that adventure is rules-neutral at worst, i've run a lightly altered version of it for three different editions of D&D. it's a fun adventure, and great for a GM that feel like hamming it up but aren't you overselling it a tiny bit ? anyways, good on you providing the m...

Re: Fear vs Terror

As-Written, any Fear and Terror qualities not resulting from size (being undead, daemons, or taxmen come to repossess the ratcatcher's dog) do not interact, meaning that two vampires, who both cause Fear , would currently cause each other to take a Cool test to approach each other which i imagine ma...

Re: Custom minor deity concept: Pharos, God of the Dark Light

well yeah, but OP mentioned temples, an overall head of the cult, and a "Secret" head temple which leads me to beleive he intended it as an organized cult with a heiarchy of priests and such.

Re: Custom minor deity concept: Pharos, God of the Dark Light

i'd reject it if i were GM, honestly. it doesn't feel like a god that has a following so much as a justification for the spells you want to have. what does the god attend to in the great scheme besides "he light that burns away illusions and falseness"? what does their churches do, and how are they ...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

i think part of that is the tendency for the chaos-centric material to deliberately misinform as a way of "setting the tone" for much of the earlier days. I wouldn't be surprised if "preserving the mystique" was part of GW's reason for conflating Chaos, Magic and Divinity. Several WFB heresies rely...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

that is something of a reach, really. the last paragraph clearly sets the old world gods apart as separate stuff, and the "chaos powers which typify fellowship, charity, law and other redeeming characteristics" was more in reference to the old chaos gods of law (order being a subset of chaos and al...

Thus the shadow-selves of deceased warriors retain their most warlike traits, and flow together into a huge co-joined entity. This movement causes...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

I do think the section on a character sheet saying ‘religion’ (with the name of a single deity in it) should be removed. The default assumption should be that everyone worships all gods a bit, with those who are particularly devoted to a cult making that a specific and unusual choice. it's part of ...
