Re: Non-SL Combat Rules (ie my house rules)

Okay - I think you should just go ahead and try it out. If it fits your style of play then great! To me this sounds like 1st ed just with a modified to-hit roll instead of opposed rolls. And that makes a lot of sense honestly. So I would definitely like to hear more about how it goes. Keep us update...

Re: Non-SL Combat Rules (ie my house rules)

So at lot has already been said and written about the SL and advantage systems in 4th ed (and I totally understand why you find it frustrating to keep track of things - that was my main reason for never switching fully to 4th ed). But here are some specific comments to the changes you are doing: 1) ...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

So I went looking for a few one-shots to use while my players are traveling the empire. I looked up "One-shots of Reikland" and while some of the adventures are so-so I found "Lock-in" to be very inspiring. I have fleshed it out a bit and given it a "Rough nights" feel....

Re: Question about engaging

It is only a question of adjacency. It does not matter if you are in base contact with one or six opponents. It is a holdover from the board game. Being in base contact is sticky to prevents units with high move to rush back forth in combat without a consequence. Personally I think it works well tog...

Homage to Chuck

So I think its about time that I express my gratitude to Chuck for bringing this forum online (having lurked around here for 1½ year and many years before that on StS). I truly appreciate you running this forum - mainly because it is a fairly drama free place that has only a moderate amount of activ...

Re: Solutions to Whiffing

I was also thinking of introducing opposed rolls, but it seems counterintuitive. The whiff-feeling occurs from the low share of successes (or impactful results) on the overall number of rolls. Opposed rolls just double the amount of rolls, unless you rule that also failed rolls (i.e. above your WS)...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

One of the problems of conservative humour in a historical roleplaying game (and lots of similar contexts) is that it can age badly. What might seem like a topical commentary on one of this years battleground in he culture war, can look a bit reactionary a few years later. And seeing as we're still...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

No players in my campaigns have ever felt represented. No one. Ever. My players play characters that are not themselves. They exist purely in a fantasy context and you can not draw parallels between how people of a particular race, gender, age or religious belief are treated in game and in real life...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

I would recommend you all to listen to the latest Mud & Blood podcast episode. They revisit their review of Wfrp 4th edition after having played a 26 session campaign. Let's just say that pretty much everything Capnzapp listed about the mechanics in his original comments from the StS forums were...

Re: 4th - Magic points?

No. If you get Instinctive Diction and Perfect Pitch up, you can cast relatively quickly. Get War Wizard later and you're laughing. Spam Dart to build up Advantage, then cast. Channelling is a waste of XP, so just go all in on Language (Magick). Elves get to learn more than one Wind too, so they're...

Re: Solutions to Whiffing

So just a modest observation from my own game: - An average combatant in 1st ed has around 30-40 WS - Charging or winning gives you a +10 If you factor in winning or charging then by definition one side should hit around half of the time. So with two combatants you should expect one of them to land ...

Re: 4th to 1st rules adaptation

I am using two things from 4th ed in my 1st ed game - endeavors and dramatic tests. Both fit in perfectly - endeavors were really easy to convert (and makes the whole career switching easier to narrate) and dramatic tests is really just a codifying of what was already partially there in 1st ed alrea...

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills

Though I still think there's a mismatch between RAW and the two official halfling pregens listed in the adventure books, unless we're to assume both coincidentally bought Ranged (Sling) out-of-Career. And if 2/2 pregen halflings had to buy the same skill out-of-Career, that shows it's basically an ...

Re: Character Creation Weapon Skills

Halflings in 4th ed are sure to run into problems. Not only do they miss melee skills as racial skills - they also have their size against them. However - all humans have melee basic as a racial skill as far as I remember so they can use basic weapons without having access to those skills in their c...

Re: Fate points and critical hits

It appears I am the evil one. In the instance of losing a body part & death from bleeding/shock/whatever, a spent FP means a player will miraculously survive/use their own belt as a tourniquet before passing out/tied off their torn artery with their teeth etc., but they still lose their body pa...

Re: Nurgle cults - what defines them?

Good point on defining the cult from the leader. I am in that process right now (using input from this thread). Right now I am leaning towards a human military cook who ends both infecting all of the company he is in and gaining some of them as followers as he runs for the hills...

That would be fun but not really in-line with the overall wibe of the campaign. It's definately more rooted in humans taking all the wrong choices and suffering the consequences.
