Winds of Chaos

I last played The Enemy Within in 1st edition, and we had a blast with it. Afterwards, I picked up the books. When 4th edition came out, I eagerly picked up with new versions, and there's a lot to like. There are problems, but there've always been problems and they can be overcome. I am not currently set up to run the campaign as I have no group for it; my wife, a novice RPGer loved the character build, but I can't imagine running it as a one-on-one campaign. I have some free time, so I thought I'd do prep work.

Nowadays, as my memory has gotten worse with age, I've started using Tiddlywikis (TW) for campaign management. Basically, it's a wiki in a single HTML file, so you can track your NPCs, for example, and link them to a settlement, and have everything in one place. I thought it would be a good idea to set up a WFRP TW so I could track what optional tules I was using, what NPCs I was modifying, etc.

So, I wanted to ask if anybody else has done this, and if so, if they had any recommendations or suggestions. It's working pretty well so far, but it's a work in progress as there's a lot of information to put in.

Any time you're setting up a new knowledge store from scratch, it's going to be a lot of upfront effort. But it will pay dividends as it gets set up. And that will only grow as you continue to run other campaigns in that same setting.

I haven't used Tiddlywikis personally, but one thing I have found very useful is to have a semi-standard template for NPCs and Towns, because they are going to be the top level pages you will be adding notes to and attaching lots of sub-pages to.

The only real suggestion I would have would depend on what your data source is (print books, or pdfs) and what your method of data entry is (manual transcription from a book or copy/paste screen snips from a pdf). If it's transcription, you will get more mileage from using some sort of template. If it's screen snips, you'll face a problem where you have to pull information from many different snips.

Another suggestion would be to put page references into your notes so you know where to refer back to when you need to.
