Re: The two views of Bretonnia
There have been some various stabs at this from various fans, though I don't think much has been publicized. There is "The Corrupt Kingdom of Bretonnia", an excellent fan sourcebook for the first-edition WFRP. As it was published in early days of the Internet era, it was released in incre...

Re: The two views of Bretonnia
There have been some various stabs at this from various fans, though I don't think much has been publicized. My own version of Bretonnia (which my PCs are currently adventuring in) has some elements of both. In general, it's Renaissance in feel and most of Bretonnia is - very loosely - based on late...

Re: Papering over the big crack in Power Behind The Throne [spoilers]
I suggest reading Theo's great ideas on solving exactly this issue. https://theenemywithinremixed.wordpress.com/2022/08/18/a-less-linear-power-behind-the-throne-finale-part-i-the-finale-as-written/ Would be great to read, if anyone followed this. My group is at beginning of the end of DotR. I am st...

Re: Torture And Burn
The taint of chaos is cancer. To a person, and to the Empire. In a person it's established that any taint will spread and inevitably lead to them succumbing to the call of Chaos. It's no mercy to spare them. Interestingly, if the character actually did observe empirically, he might eventually figur...

The whole '9 Eyes' thing kind of feels like an underdeveloped afterthought of a plot.

Re: Torture And Burn
Okay thx Orin. Just not sure I have the stomach to burn people. Good thing it's only a game. How about just playing a profession where you don't have to be an evil piece of shit? Then again, actually playing a decent and humane witch-hunter would be an interesting subversion. He'd probably be consi...

Re: Advice for getting the WFRP tone right for scenarios?
This may be obvious, but there should not be a dungeon in a WFRP adventure. You can have a mine or sewers or a dungeon in the sense of a jail. But you must not have a D&D dungeon in a WFRP scenario. Another thing are monsters. Just use the classic ones from the old world. Don't extend into an i...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
I do think this was a difficult spot for the writers/developers to get out of: be true to the original, retain the themes and complete the plotlines of earlier installments, smooth out the WFRP v1 to WFB v7/The Old World inconsistencies, do it in a couple of hundred pages and make grognards happy. ...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
Some first impressions of Ruins, cross-posted from the Facebook group WFRP Game Masters: First off, I think it’s fair to call it a reimagining, or reboot, of Empire in Flames. The basic structure is pretty much the same and a lot of elements – characters, incidents, places, etc – are in both but thi...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
I'm intrigued by the Graf's Garden Party. Does it bear any similarities to the similarly named event in WFRP3's The Enemy Within ? Well, the format is somewhat similar, there are a number of NPCs bickering with each other, and there's a hedge maze (but no escaped monsters hiding in it this time). I...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
I completely get your point - there's always a risk with Warhammer that writers get so wrapped up in creating interesting NPCs that they forget about GMs and players discovering or interacting with the stuff that makes them interesting. It's more of an issue when you're dealing with the powerful NP...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
My only gripe is the idea – obviously tempting thought it was – to make Nastassia and Brünhilde each other’s nemesis/archenemy. It’s another instance of the bad Warhammer habit of making everything about the cool NPCs. That was my doing. I wanted to give Nastassia a flaw, because otherwise she's at...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
The odd thing is that Power Behind the Throne makes several references to Middenland and the duchy of Middenheim being separate entities, and Nordland rather than Middenland being ruled by Middenheim in 2512 (as well as heavy foreshadowing about Nordland separatists). That could all be a matter of ...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
Some impressions after a quick read-through of the Power Behind the Throne Companion: First off: the tagline “The essential companion for campaigning across Middenland” is completely misleading. There’s pretty much nothing in this book about Middenland, let alone campaigning across it. It all focuse...

Re: Middenheim: City of the White Wolf
Also, since apparently now one of the four viaducts to the city actually comes down from the mountains, it might make sense to also make this an aqueduct collecting water from various mountain streams, rain and snowmelt. Though I was also intrigued that the new Power Behind the Throne seems to descr...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
Here's my first thoughts on the new PBtT after a first read-through (cross-posted from the GMs group on Facebook): Short impression: Very close to the original, more so than I had expected. Longer thoughts: First, of course, the book is very pretty as we’ve come to expect from C7. My favourite piece...

Re: Middenheim: City of the White Wolf
A new revision of the PDF is now posted. The 400,000 figure for the population is indeed a typo with an extra zero. Heh, that's actually unexpected good news. :) I was sure they were doubling down on their absurdly huge numbers. Of course, having 40,000 people live on top of a big rock plateau with...
