Re: Surprised opponents take less damage
Glad folks are liking the suggestions. Might want to do some play testing for optimisation it, though. You could make it really unpleasant if the attacker got the Very Easy +60% and the surprised defender got the Very Hard -30% to their rolls. Ideally, you'd keep it as simple as possible, but specif...

Re: Surprised opponents take less damage
You could either:
1) Still make the opposed roll, but any success on the part of the surprised character is treated as a fail, albeit with zero success levels for the attacker.
2) Make it Very Easy (+60%) for the attacker, perhaps?
Regards,
Robin

Re: Gnomes in 2nd edition
Additionally, a very different version of gnomes for WFRP was created by Green Ronin in their tips for incorporating Freeport into the Old World: https://greenronin.com/freeport/2007/11/14/grim_and_perilous_freeport/ I've never seen this before - thanks for posting. I've long considered Freeport my...

Re: Gnomes in 2nd edition
There was a Gnome themed issue of Warpstone (semi-official) that I think was during the 2nd ed' period. It wasn't pro-Gnome if I recall correctly. I wrote an article called 'Shelter from the Storm', which appeared in Warpstone 30. It was very pro-Gnome, though it was mostly concerned with why Gnome...

Re: Feast of Blood
I started writing this back in the Warpstone days. After Warpstone passed into the Aethyr I couldn't find the motivation to finish it, but happily Dave Allen and C7 thought it might make a good Geheimnisnacht scenario... and here we are. Just wanted to say that's awesome they did that. It was great...

Re: Feast of Blood
I was originally thinking that maybe straight after the Horned Rat with a slight juggling of the timing of Heinrich's intervention. Partly because it's a bit non-stopping train from the mid point of The Horned Rat to the end of Empire in Ruins but also because having a few more scenarios that can b...

Re: Feast of Blood
I suppose I should warn of very minor spoilers... I picked it up yesterday and it looks nice from scanning over it. I noticed it's played out Sylvania, but do you think adapting it to drop into TEW is easy? That's a fair question. As written, Spider Holt is on the Stirland-Ostermark border - I imagi...

Feast of Blood
Utterly shameless promotion time here I'm afraid, but C7 has just released my latest scenario, Feast of Blood , with a wonderfully gruesome cover! https://www.cubicle7games.com/product/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-feast-of-blood/ https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/305324/WFRP-Feast-of-Blood?src=fp_u...

Re: Beyond The Enemy Within campaign, upcoming releases
The correct plural of dwarf (the regular continuation of Old English dweorg) is dwarrows (from dweorgas), later levelled down to "dwarfs" (probably under the influence of the French and Latin accusative plurals, which are commonly in -s ). The latter, "dwarfs", is the plural use...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
Grey Mountain Gold So, I grabbed an adventure pretty much at random, and go 'Grey Mountain Gold'. A PDF that costs £5 (which strikes my Yorkshire heart as somewhat pricey) but is also available as part of Ubersreik Adventures vol II. Its 17-pages long, including adverts. <snipped positive review> A...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
Not the person you were responding to but I bought it & though I've only skimmed it I'm quite impressed—what the current iteration of WFRP lacks (& indeed, what all of WFRP lacks) are these nice kind of "We could do this all in one night but could also come back to it piecemeal" s...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
But as I've said, I've mostly come to terms with the fact that WFRP adventures are written in a wordy conversational style, and I'm not holding it against them. I'm trying to find those that offer enough complexity beneath that, and those that aren't railroady. I want to avoid quoting lots of text ...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
As some of you may be aware, Cubicle 7 have just released a scenario I've written for WFRP4 entitled Something Knocking . It's available as a PDF over on DriveThruRPG. I'm always happy to see reviews or general discussion of anything I've written, so please feel free to post here, even if it's just...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
Was there anything in particular that makes you think of Wallis/Hogshead? [Edit: or did you just mean Hogshead era, rather than Wallis/Hogshead creating that image?] The Hogshead final part of the Doomstones campaign, Heart of Chaos , I think epitomises the 'blood, shit and misery' approach - it wa...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
The blood, shit and misery approach to WFRP arrived with WFRP2, so that's new school as far as I'm concerned. I've never liked it - grimness and peril is fine, but unrelenting misery and hopelessness, not for me. Anyone can play it that way, and that's absolutely fine, but there's no reason it has ...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
A typical scene would be: a simple location, four NPCs in a single room. Not very complicated but described on 2-3 densely packed wall-of-text pages. Impossible to use at the gaming table. Literally physically impossible. You have to make your own notes and summaries. Can't agree with that, I'm afr...

Re: The town of Prie
I'm fairly sure that many of the settlements on Andy's map are his own invention, to fill out the space and provide inspiration for GMs who want new or 'fresh' settings for their games. The Empire feels much bigger with these additions, which I think is a good thing... there's more room for new bac...

The town of Prie
Doe anyone have any information on the town of Prie and Prie Ridge? Prie appears on the inside-cover map of WFRP4 on the river north of the Skaag Hills and gets mentioned in the book and in Adventures afoot in the Reikland . I can't find it on any maps other than Andy Law's master map, which I heard...
