Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Earlier, I mentioned the idea of Sigmarism as an aggressive monotheism, actively attempting to supplant other faiths. Not the official lore but that view doesn't strike me as quite plausible, as discussed earlier. Nor is it particularly interesting. I don't feel Manaan, Verana, Taal, Rhya and the ot...

I like that!
In line with only showing at night, could also consider the influence of the chaos moon.

Re: The hunchback of Altdorf
He'd have to be stealthy but it could work. The witch-hunters will burn him on sight. They have a habit of burning innocent people "just to be sure," so the Empire probably doesn't have a lot of living hunchbacks. Put another way, no clear distinction between ordinary deformities and chaos...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Might as well emphasize that Imperials would never call their own religion polytheistic. In comparison to what? This is purely a technical term used in game manuals. If their beliefs are functional and plausible but not polytheistic, that's an error in terminology, not evidence for their system bein...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Something else, for my part: that the way divinities are worshiped, according to Warhammer Fantasy publication, is, in my opinion, not a way that might be described being polytheist. As far as I know, a polytheist cult wouldn't work the way it is described for Warhammer Fantasy , for the reasons I ...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
That said I'm not sure the polytheistic pantheon described in WFRP would inspire an intense fanaticism amongst the general population even if the miracles were consistent in their application. For example how would one be equally pious to Ulric, Shallya and Ranald? I would imagine your average Impe...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
The tension point between 'magic' and 'divine acts' would rest mostly on consistency. Mutation is probably the most common magical effect in the empire. When you add in the fact that wizards often unintentionally summon daemons or transform themselves into spawn, it becomes pretty clear why witches ...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
The original post assumes that polytheism takes certain forms. For example, Bifi finds the lack of a maternal deity a serious omission. I'm not sure that's strictly necessary. Islam and Protestantism both lack any sort of mother figure. They're monotheism, sure, but people believe them. Why would po...
